Prevention is always better than treatment
Sealants are useful in preventing tooth decay, especially on the back teeth, and can save patients money in the long run. Dr. Sanchez and our hygienist can make sealants part of your treatment plan for a healthy mouth.
Sealants are most often placed in children and teenagers, since tooth decay can start soon after teeth come in. But adults can benefit from sealants too, because you never "outgrow" the risk for developing cavities.
A dental sealant is a plastic material that is applied to the chewing surface of a molar or bicuspid tooth. The sealant material flows into the pits and grooves of the teeth, acting as a barrier and protecting enamel by preventing plaque and bacteria from penetrating the enamel in these areas.
